GO HARDER! If you’ve been paying attention recently, we’ve noticed a producer popping up on our SoundClouds. He goes by the name of Geeohhs, he’s produced for 2kthagoon, Texako, Hvmmer The Scammer, Lil Xelly, and many more. With his smooth melodies and ear grabbing drums he’s been making us all do the stank face. We caught up with him over the weekend and asked him if he’d be down for and interview, scroll down and see what we talked about.
First of all, who are you?
I’m a producer named Geeohhs.
Where are you from?
I’m from Canada in a city near Toronto. I usually tell people outside of Toronto, Canada because no one knows anything about Canadian cities.
Do you come from a musical family?
Nah, no one in my family has any musical talents, to my knowledge at least.
What made you get into music then?
To be honest, I kinda just got bored one day and decided to get FL Studio. DJ Smokey (an underground producer from my city) was also someone I fucked with and the fact he was from my city inspired me a lil bit to start producing.
Other than DJ Smokey, who are some artists or producers that inspire to keep going harder?
Producer wise, my preferences change all the time but at the moment, I’d definitely say BasedTJ, Swvsh, Uglyfriend, and really any producers that have their own sound. All the producers I consistently work with ( El Greko, Wockboy, DaggerEm, NinethLuke, etc) also inspire me to go harder as well. Big shoutout to those guys!
I’ve seen you’ve been working with a lot of people recently and noticed your name is popping up a lot. Who are some artists you hope to work with one day?
Lucki, Future, and Chief keef are definitely artists I hope to work with one day. For now though, I’m trying to work with Kevin Kazi, Tommy Ice, Lil Paycheck, Lerado, NolanBeRollin, and Surf. As well as all the other artists that I’ve worked with before
Recently we’ve seen artists try to charge producers for placements, what are your thoughts on that?
I don’t know. On one hand, I kinda understand if it’s an artists featuring on a producers tape or something like that. But on the other hand, it seems like artists are taking advantage of smaller & newer producers. Especially when a lot of these artists are into scamming. Long story short though, you’ll never see my buying a placement.
I agree. What is your your approach to making a beat and sending it out?
For making beats and sending them out, I usually just make whatever I’m feeling first. After that, I export at 192 KPS so I can fit more of them in an email without them becoming google drive links. When it comes to sending them out, I usually send anywhere from 3-6 beats ( depending on how well the artist knows me) and I always include in the email to let me know if they want to use or use any so I don’t end up resending the beat to anyone else. From there if they use any I’ll send the unmastered WAV file and stems depending on their mixing knowledge.
What are your thoughts on producers using samples or loops in there beats?
I always sample so I fully support that shit. I guess legalwise you should clear all that first though. I’ve never really been a fan of using loops or midis, because it always felt a little easy to be honest. But at the end of the day you’re not supposed to impress other producers, so it’s whatever. I can’t hate. Just make sure you credit the producer who made the loop or midi though!
Last question for you Geeeohhs. Why do you do what you do? Is there a bigger purpose behind your music?
To be honest, not really. My only goal with this music shit is to just make good music that people can enjoy. Making money off it would be nice as well, but my #1 goal is to just make good music. That’s all that matters to me.
We would like to thank Geeohhs for his time and for being our first interviewee. Ask Geeohhs on instagram about his drumkit, it has many sounds and is all he uses to make beats.
